Techniques That Make Concrete Repairs Lasting And Effective

Concrete is used extensively in the construction of drives, patios, garages, porches, walls and floorings. If any part of it is damaged or broken then, it has to be repaired immediately to avoid any accident. A number of repair techniques are available which you can resort to but for all of them it is best to hire a professional. Trained people are aware of the techniques that can be used for particular places and will do a thorough work that will serve you well for quite a few years. It also gives a much-needed facelift to the area.

How to fix the cracks

Small cracks in the concrete should be fixed immediately if you want to avoid a bigger damage.

•    Some of the mixes necessary for the repair are available in tubes that can be readily applied to the affected area.
•    Make sure the area is free of dirt and water before you apply the contents of the tube.
•    You will not need to drill or remove the slab to repair cracks. But in places where extensive repair is needed it is inadvisable to use the same remedy for cracks. Repairing cracks with these is easy and hardly takes much time.

Keep the area free

When larger areas or slabs are repaired, the entire area has to be cordoned off so that people do not step on the repaired area.

•    Also, the process is time taking, so it is better to not allow people in the area for some time.
•    Concrete slabs take a lot of time to dry off. If you are fixing the driveway, then make sure you have an alternative place to park the car for a few days it is completely dry.
•    Before starting the concrete repair, the entire area and the remaining broken parts of the slab will have to be removed completely.

Using the mortar

Various techniques are used for the repairing. Portland cement may be used to mend the defects that are not properly seen on the surfaces. If the area is in view of the public, then the mortar should be applied using the hand technique rather than shotcrete. A patch fixed using the Portland cement is likely to be darker than the rest of the area unless the color is matched perfectly. A thorough water cure should be applied before and after the concrete repair so that the mortar can hold on to the surface well.

Preplaced aggregate concrete

It is the best and most used method of repair which is made by injecting Portland cement sometimes with or without sand. The mortar displaces any air or water in the voids where it is being placed. Thus, the void is fixed with a dense mass of high aggregate content that can be applied easily than the conventional mortars. The preplaced aggregate concrete repair New York that have to do underwater. It is highly adaptable to special repair methods. But only under a qualified professional who has the necessary expertise can this method work well.
